what?

terribly sorry.

it’s felt super-de-dooper to be done with all my pressing projects. now i’m kind of wanting to instill a policy of focusing on one thing at a time, but i doubt it would last.

current/imminent projects:

1) two nyan cat scarves. i expect shipping them will be an idiot.

2) figures taken from a video game called “journey.” as i rule, i distrust and avoid nearly all video games, but this is for a friend’s birthday, and the trailer looked very artful. i think she expects them to be felted, but i don’t think that will happen.

3) gifts for distant dates. i’m seeing a crocheted telephone, some scarves, maybe a bag, possibly a hand-sewn cat, placemats.

4) a baby blanket for my niece-or-nephew-to-be. it’s primarily green and white, my brother’s school colors.

5) etsy items. expanding the merchandise. MW came to visit, saw my doily rocks and said i should sell them, so i guess i will. also a few cupcakes, maybe some baby birds. also, the person that commissioned the hippo hat has not collected in the six months since she suggested it (and very suspiciously ignored my first email telling her it was finished), sooooo i think it’d be fair to throw it up there as well. never trust teenagers.

6) an embroidered uterus.

May 28

last night was wholly dedicated to finishing projects, although i don’t feel like i was ever in an especially hardcore arts and crafts mode.

i was worried at first because the squares weren’t stretched taut like the last pillow. however, this one is going to my aunt’s house in north carolina, which is full of old things that never get sat or laid on. my mom’s pillow will most definitely be used, so it’s good that it’s overstuffed for future flattening. also, i sort of like the frumpy, woodsy effect this one has, and the way the squares formed scallops along the edges. that was unplanned. also, i’m over having to buy stupidly expensive pillow forms. on to something else.

the replacement groom is also finally done. glory be.

doily rocks for my dad’s garden. worked without patterns. the backs are a nod to the geometric design cult that i still don’t understand. i’m excited to keep exploring in making more of these.

if i make sad faces sometimes NW says i can get a cat. when i say i want to get a cat, NW always makes sad faces.

May 23

i finished joining together squares for another pillow last night, and told NW i needed a pillow form to finish it. he did a somewhat adorable thing.

i’ve also been working on making a replacement cake topper groom. work is slow, because i don’t really want to do it and the scented yarn it’s made of gives me headaches. boo.

go-go current project list.

1) square motif pillows. i just finished one, and am close to completing another one, and am planning on doing two or three or so more. i think i get fixated on making one thing, judging by this and past projects. i’ll ride it out as long as i can, especially since it’s great for using up leftover yarn.

2) my cake toppers went over very well, but then the recipient went and lost the groom. EFFING A. i said i’d make her another by next week, but it’s lower on my priority list now.

3) NW’s blanket, although it’s suddenly very warm, and i most prefer working on it when it’s cold and i can curl up under it as i go.

4) something to do with lady reproductive organs. maybe using an embroidery hoop and interesting fabric.

5) the octopus pillow AND hexagons for my sister.

6) doily rocks, as always.

7) a telephone. with button buttons. yeeee.

8) the ever-present cloud of potential thises and thatses.

9) AND i forgot, two nyan cat scarves. yikes.

check this heffalumpic beast. it’s 20”x20” and made of EVERYTHING.

for my mom’s birthday. originally it was going to be a blanket, but i changed my mind.

you can’t really tell, but there’s a whitish border running along only three sides. this is because 1) i had to fold the blanket-to-be in half to make it a pillow and 2) i’ve been interested in home furnishings that are shaped to fit into and also accommodate their surroundings. like my baby sister made a bookshelf that’s all flat  on the back, but has a lip-of-sorts jutting out horizontally on the front. rad!

originally the border was going to be much frillier and rufflier, but again i changed my mind, and it was going to take forever.

May 11

last night i made myself a cupcake pincushion and tried to cut NW’s hair. i do not understand boy hair.

May 10

bam.

very, very close to finishing the cake toppers, having stayed up until 2.30 last night finishing the figures and putting together the base. Just need to crochet up a quick sleeve to cover the wire apparatus, and it’ll be golden.

other projects, since i haven’t compiled a list in a little bit (almost a month actually, yikes):

1) a large octopus pillow for my little sister constructed of afghan motifs.

2) a pillow also made of motifs for my mama.

3) NW’s blanket.

4) the hexagon blanket.

these are basically my most important, currently in-progress projects right now. planning some odds and ends. a much-needed pincushion for myself, doily rocks, birthday gifts of i-don’t-know-what, some soft sculpture, et cetera.

mas flores. para mi sobrina.

the button on the last one has some scuffs, which i knew about but forgot about but then decided to ignore after i picked it out from my stash. none other would do.
